Rainlilies Already growing in pots, these lovely little
flowers bloom off and on all summer. Called Rainlilies because they often
bloom after a rainstorm. Zephyranthus are Amaryllis relatives native to the Americas. Great outdoors in the south, excellent for indoor pots and plants. Tolerates any soil type. EASY to grow. Blooms several times each summer, after heavy rains (hence their common name "Rain Lily"). Winter hardy in zones 8-11, elsewhere grow in pots or dig and store for the winter. Rain lilies, so named because of their tendency to burst into bloom after a rain, are originally from Mexico, Guatemala and the grassy plains of South America. These clump-forming perennials start small, but when left in undisturbed will develop over several seasons into truly impressive sights.
Among the easiest of bulbs to grow, rain lilies blend beautifully into perennial beds, herb gardens and containers. Poke these little bulbs in here and there; then forget them. One day this summer you'll glance at your garden and there they'll be, blooming away.
